Meet the Board

The RESCU Board of Directors is a passionate and committed group of up to fifteen volunteers who represent diverse parts of our community. This team includes current and former crafters, entertainers, festival staff, and even patrons, all of whom dedicate their time and energy to attend meetings, serve on committees, and keep RESCU running smoothly.

These dedicated RESCU supporters not only volunteer their time but also demonstrate their commitment by achieving 100% participation in giving. Each Director is actively involved in fundraising efforts, helping to ensure that RESCU continues to thrive.

Their time is freely given.

Their dedication is admirable.

Phil Johnson

Founder/President Emeritus

Philip Earl Johnson is a co-founder of RESCU. He has served as president, and secretary in the past. He has worked at Renaissance faires for 44 years and has done his solo show MooNiE at festivals for the past 34 of them.

Magnolia Strange

President

Magnolia first heard of RESCU in 2015 at a morning meeting at the St. Louis Renaissance Festival, started volunteering in 2016 with Fundraising and then Programs Committees, joined the Board of Directors in 2019, became Programs Chairperson in 2020, took on the Vice President role in 2023 under Danielle Dupont, and assumed the role of President of the Board in 2025. They love being a part of RESCU because to them it is the transformation of tragedy into triumph, which they try to embody in their own life.As someone who lives with multiple chronic illnesses and diagnoses including (but not limited to!) fibromyalgia and ADHD, Magnolia is passionate about connecting our community with health and medical resources.

Additionally, because Magnolia is a full time entertainer who travels around the country, they are acutely aware of the barriers to access for basic healthcare and especially the lack of continuity of care for our traveling community…

Lastly, after years of travel abroad and witnessing first hand the accessibility, affordability, and outcomes of healthcare in other countries around the world, Magnolia is especially invested in continuing to work in our community to provide radical solutions that are so desperately needed in our current climate.Magnolia’s prior community organizing experience that they bring to RESCU includes cooperative work with an urban garden and grassroots soup kitchen, a collectively run women and children’s shelter, an urban farm, a zine collective, a volunteer-run bike repair shop, and serving as chairperson for a local Sierra Club affiliate. In addition, they have experience and training in consensus, non-violent communication, and anti-racism. Magnolia and the hubs each have been sober since 2015 and hope to inspire others to live their very best lives every day, knowing that the only certainty in life is death.

Danielle Dupont

Vice President

Danielle Dupont has served on the board since RESCU’s second year. She has spent most of those years serving in leadership positions from Chairs of Communications, Fundraising and Programs to Vice President and currently serves as President, or Chair, of the board for the last 6 years.
